What then frequently happens is that the camera goes through the whole spiel again! I might have to do this two-three times before I get accurate focus lock.
I then have release the shutter button, adjust my framing and half press again. Once the camera moves back to the approximate correct focus, I find that I have drifted off the focus point and the camera then locks focus on where the camera is pointed, which is then not my desired aiming point. The difficulty I have with this is that, when it is focussed in the closest position, the subject is so blurred that I cannot distinguish it in the overall fuzzy picture. I am finding that when I half press the shutter release, the camera frequently runs through the whole focus range: from being quite close to perfect focus, it will hunt back all the way to the closest focus position and then back to the long end and then lock on. Because of the mentioned needs for birding unfortunately changing this is not an option. I know I have been spoiled by my primary camera (Panasonic FZ1000, which has remarkable auto focus) but I really struggle with focussing on my 610.īecause birds are typically partly hidden in shrubbery and branches, I have my camera set to spot focusing.

I do not recall ever having heard that this is a common problem so maybe this is an issue with my camera only (or my application/methodology):īecause I am a birder and bought the P610 specifically for the long shots, I do a lot of photography at pretty much the full telephoto end of the lens.
